Tips & care

Love your tank. It'll love you back.

Simple habits that keep your septic system flowing happily for decades — and your wallet a little fuller.

1

Pump every 3–5 years

A 1,000-gallon tank serving a family of four usually needs attention every three to four years. We'll send a friendly reminder.

2

Mind what goes down

Toilet paper and the three P's — that's it. Wipes (even 'flushable'), grease, and harsh chemicals shorten your tank's life.

3

Spread out laundry

Doing seven loads on Sunday floods the system. Spreading washes through the week gives bacteria time to do their job.

4

Protect the drain field

Don't park, build, or plant trees over it. Grass is great — deep roots are not.

5

Watch for warning signs

Slow drains, gurgling pipes, lush green patches in the yard, or sewer smells all say 'call us soon.'

6

Go gentle on additives

Most are unnecessary, and some actually harm the helpful bacteria already living in your tank.

A note on the bigger picture

A well-cared-for septic system is one of the most earth-friendly wastewater solutions on the planet. The bacteria in your tank, the soil in your drain field, and a little human kindness work together to return clean water to the ground. We think that's worth celebrating.
